Democracy Now! has great video coverage of the protests

Hundreds of Thousands Take Part in National Day of Action to Defend Public Education

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Halfway through (32:00), you can see me hand out some donuts and get handed a phone (as microphone). At that time we were freezing but enjoying ourselves, since the picket and rally was turning out very well. All in all, I think the protests give us plenty of cause for optimism that we can pressure through some meaningful changes as we continue to build momentum. The fact that so many turned out, and of such divergent stripes and colors, from Kindergarteners to grad students to janitors to professors (to local anarchist groups!), and that this happened in dozens of sites across 20 states, shows both that there is a massive problem and a massive will to resist it. More soon, I hope.

Wish I had fast enough internet to watch this! I’d love to see some of the action. Sounds like quite the effective, enthusiastic, inspiring day.
